The heavenly news

What if Heaven were to produce a daily newspaper?  It's interesting to think of the issues that would generate headlines up there.  Our earthly newspapers focus on natural events that are controversial, tragic, and shocking or that report major events between nations, sects, and politicians.  We might consider how the events of men might generate news of interest to angels and our heavenly father.  Rather than the actual tragedies, conflicts and political happenings (which probably don't surprise or astound residents of heaven) I suspect there is great interest about the human response to these difficulties.  Headlines in Heaven might read: "Thousands Turn Hearts to God" after a 9/11 disaster, or "Teenager Shares Faith With Bully".  The Sports Page would say "Many Run with Perseverance".

When a wonderful saint who has led a "quiet" life simply raising her children in Christian love, caring for neighbors (both friendly and unfriendly) and walking in love with Jesus faces the end of life I imagine the front page would have a banner that reads: "Joyful Homecoming Imminent!"  The article would provide a few highlights of final preparations being made to her heavenly home and how angels were getting the trumpeters ready for the "Well Done" parade.

Some news never becomes stale, even on the eternal news beat.

1 Peter 1:12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Luke 15:7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

blessings,
