made for others

It occurred to me the other day that we are very conflicted in our design.  On the one hand we are essentially very self-centered.  Our first priority tends to be our own survival, satisfaction and sense of well-being.  Yet we were fashioned to help others.  We have fingers meant to interlock with another's hand to pull them to safety, to hold up one end of a sofa and to stroll connected with the one we love.  We have two eyes facing forward on our head that only can see our own face when looking into a mirror...but are meant to focus outwardly at creation's beauty, a newborn's precious face, and to spot a toddler straying from parents at a shopping mall.  We have feet that point forward to take us away from where we stand to help an older lady with too many groceries to lift, to hike a trail together with close friends, and to visit one who deals with bad news at the hospital.  It seems clear that we were made not just to satisfy ourselves but to hold, to see ,and to go to others.  Aren't we glad when they also come to us!   Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.   blessings, Rob Smith http://2daysthought.blogspot.com
