humbled by success

Success!  It's what the world offers, what people strive for, what we educate to attain, why we risk all to build businesses.  We look to leave our mark...to rise above others in achievement, fame, accomplishment.  We want to elevate ourselves.  Sports epitomizes this: "We're number 1!"  ...Striving for personal records and team championships.  But it was so refreshing last night to hear Redskins rookie running back, Alfred Morris, being interviewed after running for 200 yards, scoring 3 touchdowns and setting an all time season rushing record in his first year.  When asked for his comments about such greatness and whether he was now a star....he said: "I'm just humbled by this...I'm not a star, I'm Alfred Morris".  One of 7 sons, he grew up in very humble conditions and has kept that demeanor (still drives a car almost as old as he is).  I was struck with the attitude of humility as a reaction to success.  And I remembered something a wise man once said: "Remember that greater is He who is in you than you, yourselves.  If you should happen to have success remember who made that success possible and who desires to be reflected and shown through you."  I have a suspicion that Alfred knows that there is One bigger than he, who has made his recent success a reality.  How refreshing it is to be reminded that success can be a stage to display someone other than self.

Genesis 39:Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did.

blessings,
Rob Smith
