nothing but the truth

2 John 1:1 This letter is from John, the elder.
I am writing to the chosen lady and to her children, whom I love in the truth—as does everyone else who knows the truth—because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever.
Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love.

The apostle John uses several ways to describe Jesus.  In his gospel account he identifies Jesus as the Word that became flesh, the light of the world, the lamb of God, the bread of life, the water that truly quenches our thirst among other descriptions.  There is a very short epistle of John at the back of the Bible called 2 John.  It is only 13 verses long (that's the entire book!).  It is a short letter with a powerful message: Jesus is our baseline for truth in life and living.  Until we have Jesus within, we neither know the truth, nor can we effectively discern that which is untrue.  It's as though we each walk through life using our personal sense of truth...but that sense is based on the limits of our experience and judgment...until the Lord comes to dwell within our lives and overlays our personal sense of truth with real Truth...that is as reliable as you'd expect from the one who is also known as the author of life, the beginning and the end.

blessings,
Rob Smith
