Subject: what is required?

Micah 6:8 "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
-
The prophet Micah has just reviewed a list of possible offerings to God...burnt offerings, sacrifices of animals, expensive oils...even offering a first born child or your very life.  Then he writes the verse above to express what God really is looking for.  There are three verbs, three action words, in the instruction: "to do", "to love" and "to walk".  Every day of our lives we put these action words to work.  We will walk/go somewhere.  We will love something or someone.  We will do things with mind and body.
-
When our doing and walking and loving all center on the One who made us, gave us life naturally and restored us to life spiritually we find the way that pleases the Lord, results in the most effective kind of living and yields the greatest satisfaction within.
-
I believe the order might be reversed.  If we start with the "humble walk with God" I think we are much more likely to "do justice" and "love kindness"!

blessings,
Rob Smith
