Subject: something finished; something in process

When we come to faith in Christ, placing the weight of all our hope on Him and transferring it off of ourselves, something has been finished and something has just begun.  Finished is a way of living that wasn't leading to real life in quality or duration.  Just beginning is a new growth of character and purpose that continues the rest of our natural days and carries with us to eternity in Heaven.
-
When Jesus was on the Cross He cried out, "It is finished" because His work of obedience to come to earth and pay for our sins was completed there.  But there was a new beginning for Him too!  Consider Hebrews 10:12-13 "But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet."
-
Time and history matter to Christ.  Ever since the Cross and the Resurrection and the Ascension He has been waiting for the completion of the work of salvation around the world and across the generations.  Our time of living...in our place and this time...is our opportunity for a new beginning and to participate in the rest of the work that Jesus is waiting to complete.
-
For us, as believers, something has finished and something has begun.  Christ began a new life within us and Christ is continuing His work that ultimately will complete when all his enemies will be made his footstool.
-
He is the dynamic, victorious Savior!
-
blessings,
Rob Smith
